Day 18 - Quercy Huts on the Via Podiensis : Lacapelle Marival to Gramat

Quercy Huts on the Via Podiensis Le Puy Way Pilgrimage This morning we managed to escape our dodgy lodgings and circumnavigate the locked front door, largely without infestation we believe and hope. We sat on the steps of the church in the center of town and waited until the bakery opened at 7:15 AM. We happily procured two chocolate croissants, two regular croissants, and two pocket-sized vegetable quiches from the wonderful lady in the bakery. The two chocolate croissants were immediately consumed, and thus fortified we set out from Lacapelle Marival. Rudelle France We were much encouraged by our impromptu breakfast, but we were missing our morning coffee. We had hopes for the village of Rudelle, which was about 4.5km after Lacapelle Marival. This village turned out to be beautiful and to have several wonderful-looking Gites. I would recommend investigating this town as a potential place to stay if you are passing this way, especially if La Terras and the Gite in Lacapell...

Day 17 - Blessings and Challenges : Figeac to Lacapelle Marival

Blessings and Challenges on the Via Podiensis Camino Pilgrimage across France This morning we enjoyed a nice breakfast and a musical send-off, during which the gite volunteers serenaded us with the song Ultreia! It was a festive beginning to a beautiful day of hiking. We set out from Figeac on the GR6, which is the alternate route to Rocamadour. As silly as it sounds, because each day brings something new anyway, it felt very strange to be leaving the familiar GR65 . As we hiked, this new trail also seemed to have a different feel, although it is difficult to describe just why that was. The way out of Figeac was along a treed road beside the river. The first stretch was relatively flat and gave the feeling of being out in nature. The path soon began climbing gently, first through countryside with cows and sheep, and later through pine forests.
